Tails Never Fails Creator Michael Sheedy has landed in the UK last week for the first time since the pandemic hit in 2019.

2021: A season to remember for Golden Hill

BY OLLIE ALFORD

Becoming an apparel partner with TNF entails much more than simply being provided with apparel and equipment.

We like to maintain relationships and celebrate the achievements of those we work with, whether that be a fire service raising money for charity or a cricket club enjoying a trophy-laden season. The latter was certainly the case last year for our Bristol-based apparel partners, Golden Hill Cricket Club.

With promotions for five of their Saturday senior sides, including four league titles, a Gloucestershire County Cup and a haul of junior trophies to their name, Golden Hill certainly had a 2021 to remember.

We were delighted to welcome the club on board as a full apparel partner at the beginning of the year, and even more so to see the success they enjoyed in the months that followed…

The 1st XI were crowned champions of the WEPL (West England Premier League) Bristol & North Somerset Division with 279 points, losing just one game all season. Meanwhile, the club’s 2nd, 3rd and 4th teams won the Bristol & District League’s Fourth, Ninth and Eleventh Divisions respectively, losing just three games between them. The 5th XI came agonisingly close to completing the clean sweep of league titles for the Bristol club, but did ultimately secure promotion with a second placed finish in Division Fourteen, just one point behind the league winners.

The accolades didn’t stop there, however, as the 1st XI secured their first ever county cup triumph in September in the form of the Stuart Canvas Gloucestershire Cup. In a final played at the Bristol County Ground, our UK team of Will Taylor and Gareth Davies were in attendance with a FrogBox streaming kit to capture every moment.

In the end, Golden Hill proved far too strong for their opponents, Knowle CC. Defending a total of 263-9, Golden Hill cruised to victory, bowling Knowle out for just 115 to clinch the season double.

Golden Hill celebrate their Gloucestershire County Cup Final triumph at the County Ground, Bristol.

Furthermore, it wasn’t just the seniors who enjoyed a huge amount of success at Golden Hill this season. There is also a superb junior and female setup at the club, with a number of these junior sides following in the trophy-winning footsteps of the seniors.

The Under 15 age group proved particularly successful, with the Greens winning the Bristol Youth Cricket League Performance Division and the Midweek Cup, whilst the Yellows were winners of the Development Group Division. In addition, the Under 17s won the BYCL Cup, whilst the Under 13 Yellows won the Bristol T20 Vitality Blast and came runners-up in the county-wide Gloucestershire Vitality Blast.

“We are all delighted with the 2021 season and the hard work and dedication from all of the club to achieve five promotions and field seven, sometimes eight, adult sides on a Saturday.” said John Colley, Golden Hill’s Director of Cricket.

“The youth sides continue to go from strength to strength and, with further works on and off the pitch, 2022 promises to be an exciting year at the club.”

TNF’s UK Sales & Business Development Manager, Gareth Davies, added: “Golden Hill have been a pleasure to work with over the last 12 months, becoming a flagship club for TNF in Bristol. Between Tom and Theo, they have created a fantastic portfolio of apparel for members and players to choose from. I look forward to working closely with them for a long lasting partnership, and also being able to watch their progress closer this year thanks to their acquisition of a Frogbox live streaming kit.”

TNF Beanies Raise Funds for Firefighters Charity

Whilst TNF’s main purpose is to provide high quality equipment and apparel to sports clubs, associations and schools across the country, opportunities occasionally arise where we are able to do our bit for local communities.

One such opportunity emerged earlier this year, when Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service celebrated their 25th year anniversary. They decided they wanted a tangible souvenir to mark the occasion, whilst also giving something back to an organisation from whom they have received much support over the last 25 years; The Fire Fighters Charity.

The Fire Fighters Charity was set up during the Second World War to support the bereaved families of firefighters who had died during the Blitz. In the 80 years since, the charity has been providing support for the physical, social and mental wellbeing of those involved in the fire services across the UK.

Adrian Davies, a Watch Manager in the Service’s Northern Division, contacted TNF to see if we could aid their fundraising efforts, and we were only too pleased to assist. In conjunction with Adrian, we decided to produce a bespoke beanie hat for the members of the service, with funds raised being donated to the Fire Fighters Charity. Demand and generosity have been far higher than anticipated, with 250 hats sold raising more than £750 for the charity so far; £2 from every beanie bought goes to the charity, whilst TNF also donate an additional pound from every sale. The aim is to raise a total of £1000.

“Originally, I was only going to order 50 hats, but interest grew quickly and I had to up the order to 150 just for the first batch.” said Adrian. “Hopefully, demand will increase even further once the colder weather returns and we can raise more money for the Fire Fighters Charity!”

TNF’s UK Sales & Business Development Manager, Gareth Davies, said “Working alongside the fire service and the Firefighters Charity has been an absolute pleasure. We are over the moon to be contributing to an amazing charity and providing the fire service with great quality beanies.”

#TheLastSession with Dimitri Mascarenhas

The current series between India and England has been a pure exhibition of test match cricket. Joe Root’s mesmerising double hundred, Rohit Sharma’s batting masterclass, Ravi Ashwin’s extraordinary all-round display – not to mention Ben Foakes’ imperious glovework. The enthralling series is perfectly poised at 1-1 at the halfway stage, with the third test set to get underway in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

The action has been too good to simply leave out on the field at stumps. So, here at TNF, we have been dissecting each day’s play on our Instagram page in ‘The Last Session’ – a live conversation with a cricket enthusiast during which we not only reflect on the day’s action, but also discuss their life, career or interests in general.

Last week, TNF’s Managing Director Michael Sheedy had the pleasure of hosting former England international and current elite coach, Dimitri Mascarenhas, following Day Two of the second test in Chennai. You can watch the full 20-minute video of their discussion on our Instagram page under the IGTV tab @tnfcricket.

Here are a couple of snippets of Dimi’s thoughts during the session…

On Rishabh Pant: “I love watching him play. He plays to his strengths and it’s coming off for him at the moment. He’s carried on his form from Australia (grimace from Sheeds), especially with the bat. But he’s also kept wicket phenomenally well in tough conditions in India.”

On Ben Foakes: “He’s a brilliant player. He averages just on 40 with the bat in first class cricket and he’s a phenomenal ‘keeper. England have got to try and do something to get him in the team. They’re giving a lot of people a lot of opportunities so hopefully he’ll be able to grasp one. He hasn’t done himself any harm.”

On his career, having grown up in Western Australia: “I moved back to England in ’96 to play as club pro. I did okay and got signed up for Hampshire – the rest is history! I’m pretty happy with my journey and loved every minute of it. The T20 game has evolved hugely – batters are whacking it everywhere; bowlers are so much more skilful. It would have been nice to have been playing 10 years later!”

On his involvement with Moonrise Sports – “It’s a great initiative and I’m really loving being part of it. I’m doing coaching wherever and whenever I can – I’m just loving it and happy to help anywhere I can.”

It was fantastic to welcome Dimi, an ex-international cricketer with almost 200 first-class games to his name, on to The Last Session. To watch the full conversation, where Dimi also shared his thoughts on the world’s best T20 spinners and more on his current coaching exploits, head over to the IGTV tab on our Instagram page – @tnfcricket – where you can also find other episodes of #TheLastSession.

Lift off for TNF UK

by Ollie Alford

Ten years on from our inception in Australia, TNF CRICKET are excited to continue our expansion into the United Kingdom with the official launch of Tails Never Fails UK.

The establishment of an official TNF HQ in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, follows a successful four-year period of providing quality cricket apparel and equipment to the UK market. The facility will act as our brand-new office and warehouse. Having a base for our operations in England will not only allow us to build on our relationships and provide better service for our existing UK customers, but also expose new clubs, schools and associations around the UK to the Tails Never Fails brand.

Whilst our area of specialisation is the manufacture of cricket products, TNF also produce merchandise and apparel in the fields of football, rugby, hockey and a number of other sporting codes. Furthermore, our reach isn’t limited solely to sport; TNF can also cater for the corporate apparel market.

On the launch of TNF UK and the establishment of the base in Lincoln, Managing Director of Tails Never Fails, Michael Sheedy, said “For us to now have an HQ in the UK is a massive step for our brand and our growing base of TNF followers. We are now ‘local’ - we have a home! We have UK based staff that are hungry for opportunities across a variety of sports and are passionate about exceeding customer service levels that sporting clubs are not used to in the UK market.”

The launch of TNF UK corresponds with our appointments of Will Taylor as its new General Manager and Gareth Davies as Head of Sales and Business Development. “The lads have both worked with our brands in the UK and in Australia in some shape or form over the past few years.” Michael continues.“They are very well versed in what our company stands for and the direction that we are moving in each and every day. Both Will and Gareth come from very impressive customer relationship roles in their professional careers and, most importantly, love all sports and are heavily involved with their local cricket clubs.”

Will has been involved with the company since 2018, initially on a casual basis, aiding the growth of the brand in the UK through his network of clubs and contacts. However, we are delighted that the development of the company is such that we are now able to benefit from Will’s services on a full-time basis.

Will Taylor, General Manager of Tails Never Fails UK, outside the company’s new premises in Lincoln.

On his new role with TNF, Will said, “When the opportunity came along for me to work for TNF, it was something I simply could not turn down. It’s not every day you get the chance to mix one of your biggest passions in life with your day-to-day work and I am extremely grateful to Michael for the opportunity to do so. He, with the aid of a highly skilled team, has built a fantastic brand and service over recent years which the UK market has been lacking for some time, so it’s really exciting to have the chance to contribute on a full-time basis.”

“I am very excited to be a part of TNF.” Gareth said upon his appointment. “I have known Michael for eight years now and experienced the business first-hand out in Australia. To be a part of such an exciting time for TNF here in the UK is amazing. I believe there is a big gap in the market for sublimated apparel in the UK and the processes and commitments TNF are delivering will certainly change the face of the market.”

We look forward to the progression of our new premises in Lincoln, to forming new customer relationships and to showcasing the very best of Tails Never Fails to the UK market.
